Today in Rock’n’Roll London History

3rd February 1967

In a darkly contrasting prelude to the coming Summer of Love, legendary record producer Joe Meek shot his landlady dead before turning the gun on himself at his Holloway Road flat-cum-studio.

Meek had produced Telstar, the Tornados classic that became the first U.S No.1 by a British group back in 1962.

His suicide took place on the 12th anniversary of the death of his hero Buddy Holly.

The ROCK’N’ROLL LONDON WALK MEETS AT 2 PM EVERY FRIDAY AT TOTTENHAM COURT ROAD STATION EXIT 3.
